The depth in the legacy of the African culture is oftentimes forgotten by the mainstream world. At most, when African dance is mentioned, generally we hear nothing about Eastern Africa. In an effort to illuminate the depth of Ethiopian culture and her influence globally, for years Dr. RAS Mikey C has researched and developed a theoretical movement concept he refers to as Ethio-Modern Dance. Ethio-Modern Dance integrates and promotes Dr. RAS’ embodied cultural experiences of Ethiopia and other cultures such as Western classical, contemporary/modern, urban dance and somatic practices. These embodied cultural experiences are then used as tools in his creative processes as a Western urban contemporary artist.
